W-S Burn

whiskeyandapples.com
(picture sneakily stolen from whiskeyandapples.com)

"The tape hisses, a guitar strikes one note at a time like a funeral dirge, and then her dark melody begins. In the background you can hear a distant church bell ring three times and it's not some post production trick."
Whiskey and Apples.

I was searching on e-bay for Josephine Foster related things, and one of the top results was a bootleg for a band called W-S Burn (JoFo was mentioned as a comparative artist).
Having never heard them, I set about searching for what I could. There doesn't seem to be an official site, but there are a few pieces on them at whiskeyandapples.com, and they have apparently toured with The Weird Weeds.

I can vaguely confirm the comparison to Josephine Foster, but I'd say that was probably made simply because W-S Burn features a woman singing over acoustic instruments. The songs are so lo-fi that they radiate an immediate comfort and sense of peace. I can hear some similarities with Jana Hunter (when she does her lo-fi static recordings), but there is also a slight smacking of Beth Gibbons in there too (again, during her quiet moments).

Curl up in a ball and enjoy!

cube #3

click for larger image

My third attempt at encasing a plant in a cube frame.
I made this one pure white in an attempt to make it appear more clean and clinical to parrallel the theories of laboratories and animal testing.

A shrub dies more slowly once it has been up-rooted, so I shall continue to use them rather than the flowers that I had originally planned on using.

I shall end with a series of similar cubes made at different times (perhaps every two weeks), to have a time line of the degredation of nature once human influence has been applied.

Drekka

bluesanct.com/bands/drekka

"What is Drekka? Who is Michael Anderson? Well, he's a musician. Some kind of modern folk singer in a way. Like americana complimented by street noise listened to in a reverb chamber. I don't know, maybe that's on the right track, at least to explain the music."

Kiss The Anus of a Black Cat

kattengat.be
(picture sneakily stolen from kindamuzik.net)

Surely the name is enough to get you curious...
"...my musical approach and interest goes out to religious and shamanistic music, be it buddhist, krishna or american indian music. Not because of it's contents but because of it's repetitive, mantra, dronelike character. I tried to create this timeless, trancelike atmosphere which you can find in religious music through using non-western instruments such as harmonium, tanpura, bowls and bells and repetitive singing. I very much enjoy their rattling and clanging."
